Commanders,

It is with great sadness, but also a joyful heart, that I inform you that Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner passed away a little before noon this morning (May 1, 2010) and went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He passed peacefully in bed with his wife Ellrena by his side. Jeff had been battling cancer for months, and has received his ultimate healing and is now no longer in pain. Jeff loved the Royal Rangers ministry and he loved bringing boys to Pow Wow and other campouts. He and his son even made it up to the campground for Pow Wow just last weekend and spent a good portion of the day Saturday. He was dedicated to this ministry to the end. Makeover Impacts Lives and Community

Apr 16 2010

Commanders,

I know a lot of us know Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner, however there may be some of you that do not. Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner is the pastor of Cornerstone Assembly of God in Meridian, Texas and has served on the Waco sectional staff for many years, currently in the role of Public Relations and Chaplain. He also serves on our district FCF staff as Historian. Last year he was diagnosed with cancer and in December the doctors said that it was terminal and only gave him three months to live. In March, he and his wife Ellrena were the recipients of the University of Texas – Austin Chi Alpha’s third Supreme Home Makeover. Jeff Ortner has beaten the odds living past the three months the doctors gave him in December. He is still in need of our prayers and miracle from God.

In today’s AG-News newsletter, there was an article about Jeff and Ellrena Ortner and the Supreme Home Makeover project. I am including that article here for you to read and be blessed by. Read the rest of this entry…

Commanders,

I received an article today in my email concerning a 29 year old Royal Rangers leader in Granite City, Illinois that has been indicted in a two-count indictment for production and possession of child pornography.  The police said Joseph Emil Klug “put a video camera in a tent, recorded a boy masturbating, edited video clips and stills and sent it out over the Internet.”1 The indictment states that Joseph Klug cut a hole in the front pouch of a green backpack in which he hid a mini video recorder. It is not clear if this occurred on a Royal Rangers or church event trip. Read the rest of this entry…

CORRECTION: It was pointed out to me that the chartering period officially ends on October 15th and that this post was a day early, but I hope it lit a fire under those that are going to try to get in under the wire to make sure that ya’ll are chartered.

Well, the official chartering period is over (or will be in about half an hour from the time I publish this post), and the Waco section is officially 6 churches down in our chartering numbers currently.  As of 10:21 PM the National Royal Rangers Office showed First Assembly of God in Belton (Outpost 109), Praise Temple Assembly of God (Outpost 377), and Five Hills Assembly of God (Outpost 526) as being chartered.  I know some other churches were working on getting everything together to charter.  Just a reminder that to be eligible for the chartering discount at Winter Camp, your church must be chartered for the 2009-2010 charter year.  Otherwise, you will be charged the non-chartered fee at Winter Camp. The National Royal Rangers Office has posted information on the national web site (royalrangers.ag.org) concerning the new Utility Uniform.  They have a PDF file that describes the proper method to wear the utility uniform and also the GPH numbers for the different uniform patches.  The utility uniform is not the only option open to your outpost.  With these changes to the uniform, we now have 4 types of uniforms: dress, formal, utility, and special.  More information about these types of uniforms can be found in the Seek and Save magazine article “Uniform Options.” Read the rest of this entry…

Family Days brought with it many new memories and a time for new friendships to be formed as well as the rekindling of old friendships.  It also brought about a change to the online presence of the Shawnee Trail Chapter.  The new Shawnee Trail web site went live in conjunction with the FCF Family Days.  For years, the Shawnee Trail had pages on the district web site, but it was nothing more than a sub-section of the site.  It would occasionally suffer from neglect.  However, all that changed at Family Days this year.  The Shawnee Trail web site is now hosted at a brand new URL and the home of the Shawnee Trail web site can be found at fcf.ntxrr.org.  This new site and the completely new design were a result of the hard work of the FCF Sutler/Promotions, a position that was added to the FCF staff this year by FCF President Art “Flintlock” Sullivan at Pow Wow time in April and is currently held by David Trower. I am blogging live from Lakeview Campground in Maypearl, TX, at the 2008 North Texas Junior Leadership Training Academy (NTX JLTA), where staff have been working since 8:00 this morning to get the camp ready for the boys to start arriving Sunday afternoon. Things are coming together and we are looking forward to having a great time at this years JLTA. We have boys from all across the district that will be attending different leadership camps this week ranging from Discovery Rangers through Expedition Rangers attending camps such as DTC, ATC, FBC, JTC, and AJTC [AMC was canceled due to low numbers]. These boys will have the opportunity to not only develop leadership skills while working together as a patrol, but also work on merits that tie into the objectives of their respective camps. North Texas Junior Leadership Training Academy

June 22 – 27, 2008

The dates for the 2008 North Texas Junior Leadership Training Academy are quickly approaching. For the last 20 years North Texas has offered the Sarge Training Academy. This year we have changed some of the camps, and have changed the overall Academy name, but the fun, training, fellowship, and spiritual emphasis that were hallmarks of the Sarge Training Academy will all be present in this year’s JLTA. We hope you are making plans now for your boys to participate in one of these camps. Read the rest of this entry…
