For the first time in quite a few years, the Royal Rangers pledge could be heard at Victorious Life Church (VLC). I had the distinct pleasure of being able to go as a sectional representative on behalf of the section and be a part of this inaugural meeting for Outpost 384.

At the same time that Royal Rangers at VLC were meeting, the Missionettes were also meeting for their inaugural meeting. The evening started with all the Royal Rangers and Missionettes getting together in one room and starting the evening in praise and worship to our God. The senior commander, David Barnett, introduced himself to the Missionettes and Royal Rangers and then introduced the Missionettes coordinator, Mary Espin, to the Royal Rangers and Missionettes. From there they split up and the Missionettes went into a separate room to begin their meeting while the Royal Rangers stayed and began their meeting.

This meeting was just to get Ranger Kids and Discovery Rangers started, although there were a couple of Adventure Rangers present as well. We began the meeting with the pledges and learning how to do a basic formation. After opening prayer and the boys were seated, I was introduced and was able to speak about some of the sectional activities that we have available, mentioning events such as pinewood derby, round-up, Ranger Kids (RK) field day, and the lock-in. I also was able to talk to the Discovery Rangers (DR) for a couple minutes concerning the Discovery Training Camp that we have coming up for boys in DR and are at least in 3rd grade and briefly mention the Adventure Training Camp for Adventure Rangers (AR) coming up at the end of 2006. The boys were excited about some of the activities that they were going to be able to do in the coming months. From there we split the boys into the age groups to take attendance.

After attendance and a chance for a restroom and water break, we then gathered around a 21st century fire located in a movie clip on a lap top. There the boys were able to tell their name, what grade they were in, and what they like to do. After that we had a devotion. The devotion was from Ecclesiastes 9:10a “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might;” This was tied into the first part of the Royal Rangers Pledge “With God’s help, I will do my best…” No matter what your hand finds to do, you should do it with all your might or strength. If a friend is in need, you should help them to the best of your ability. A Royal Ranger and a Christian shouldn’t do things half-way, or sloppy, but rather they should do things to the best that they can do.

After the devotion we ended the evening in prayer, and then dismissed. VLC had a great turn out for both Royal Rangers and Missionettes. There were 21 boys that came for Royal Rangers and 23 girls for Missionettes. I look forward to seeing many great things come out of this outpost in the months to come.
