Just a few updates to pass along to you concerning the Royal Rangers ministry in North Texas.

Commanders Awards. Today is the deadline to get your leaders award applications postmarked. If you need applications for the Outpost Commanders Award, Leaders Service Award, Senior Commanders Award, Pastors Award, Junior Leaders Service Award, or one of the cluster awards (blue, gold, or silver), go to the national Royal Rangers web site at www.royalrangers.ag.org and click on “Applications and Forms” at the top of the page. Send these applications in to the district Royal Rangers office along with your payment for the award ($15 if this is the first year you have received the award to cover the cost of the medal, or $3 if you have received the award in the past to cover the cost of the numeral). The district mailing address is North Texas Royal Rangers, PO Box 1188, Hurst, TX 76053. Make checks payable to “North Texas Royal Rangers.”

Pow Wow Work Day. Saturday, March 24 is the first of our Pow Wow work days. We are hosting the Great Texas Pow Wow this year, and we want our campground to look as good as it can for that event. In addition, we need to clear out some additional camping areas to make sure we have room for everyone. We need teams for all day Saturday. Bring work gloves and equipment for brush removal. We will not be working on individual camp sites this time; that will be done at our second work day later this spring. If you want to come in Friday night and camp as an outpost so you are ready to go to work in the morning, that is OK. If you need information on the Great Texas Pow Wow, it is available on the web at www.greattexaspowwow.com

Commanders Conference. Information and registration forms for the North Texas Commanders Conference are posted on the district web site at http://ntd.royalrangers.net. The conference will be held April 21st at First A/G in Euless. This conference is for every commander in the district. There will be a time of sharing information from National Council that is going on right now (many of the district staff members are currently in Springfield for this annual Council meeting), and we will also be sharing about what is happening in the district. We will also have some LTA modules and a renewal ICS for those who need that. During the noon lunch, we will be taking time to honor Paul Patterson for all of his years of service as our district Royal Rangers commander.

Additional Staff Appointments. I’m pleased to announce two additional district staff appointments. Sammy Kellum will be serving as our district RRA coordinator, and Martin Smith will be serving as our district programs coordinator. Both of these men have been serving Royal Rangers in our district in various positions over the years, and I look forward to working with them in these new areas of responsibility.

Sarge Training Academy. This is the 20th anniversary of the Sarge Training Academy, and we plan on celebrating in grand style. We’ll even have a 20th anniversary patch for the camp. But you can’t get one unless you attend, either as a boy attending one of our camps or as a staff member. If you would be willing to serve on staff for the camp, we have a place for you. Our first Staff in Training (SIT) camp is scheduled for April 7. Contact Jeff Kersey (Jeff@royalrangers.net) if you have questions about Sarge, or if you are willing to volunteer to help mentor the boys of our district.

E-mail Addresses. The district will continue to use the Signal Fire and the web site to communicate with commanders, but at times something needs to go out faster, and e-mail is a great way to do that. Obviously if you are reading this we have your e-mail address. But it is very likely that there are commanders, or even junior leaders, in your outpost who are not on our e-mail list. If you have e-mail addresses that we could add to this e-mail distribution list, that would be great. Simply e-mail them to Ronnie Franklin, our district communications coordinator, at Ronnie@royalrangers.net and he will get those addresses added to our list.

Thank you for all you do for the boys of the North Texas District. Please let me know if there is anything the district Royal Rangers can do to assist you in your ministry.
