I want to pass on a few reminders about upcoming events/deadlines.

This Saturday, May 5, we have two different events at the camp. First is our Staff in Training (SIT) camp for staff for the Sarge Training Academy. Jeff Kersey sent out an e-mail about the need for additional staff for Sarge earlier this week. If you have the ability to take the week of June 24 off from work to help us at Sarge, that would be great. The boys will benefit from your guidance and instruction, and you will be renewed in your vision for Royal Rangers.

The other event this Saturday, May 5, is your opportunity to meet with the North Texas District executive team: Brother Vic Schober, Brother Rick DuBose, and Brother James Jackson. This question and answer session will be at the Ollie Henley Lodge at the Royal Rangers camp starting at 3:30. If you have questions, or would like to hear from our executive team about their vision for Royal Rangers, this is your chance.

When coming to the Royal Rangers camp, you need to know that our old entrance at the bottom of the hill on Highway 66 has been closed. A new entrance has been created to the west of the old entrance, right along the west fence line. This will be a safer entrance and exit for the camp, but those of us who have been going out to the camp for years will have to get used to this new entrance.

Upcoming Deadlines

Great Texas Pow Wow. Your application must be in the district office by May 8 to avoid the $20 late penalty. This is not the postmark date, but the date by which we must actually have received your application.

Instructor Certification Seminar. If you would like to be certified as an instructor for the Leadership Training Academy, the registration deadline for new certifications will be June 3 (the last day of Pow Wow). The application form will be on the district web site in just a few days. If you have questions about what it takes to be an instructor, of if you have questions about your status as an instructor, feel free to contact our district training coordinator, Dick Harris (d-harris@ti.com).

Frontier Adventure. The Frontiersmen Camping Fellowship will be holding their Frontier Adventure on August 17 and 18 at Lakeview Camp. If you or someone you know wants to join the FCF this year, the Frontier Adventure is their opportunity. Applications for membership need to be submitted to the FCF staff no later than June 3 (the last day of Pow Wow). The application is available on the district web site. Questions can be directed to our FCF president Gary Bierschwale (gary.bierschwale@verizon.net) or our FCF vice president Art Sullivan (a href=”art@royalrangers.net”>art@royalrangers.net).

Sarge Training Academy. This is THE training academy for boys in our district. We are making some changes this year – some new camp commanders, Patrols of Excellence to encourage the boys to excel in their performance at the camp, different schedule for merits at our merits camps, etc. You and your boys will want to be part of this 20th anniversary of the Sarge Training Academy. Applications are due by June 7 for the boys, May 25 for the staff. More information about Sarge, and application forms, may be found on the district web site at http://ntd.royalrangers.net/FortheBoys/BoysTraining/tabid/590/Default.aspx. If you have questions about Sarge, contact Jeff Kersey (jeff@royalrangers.net).

I hope to see you at these upcoming events.
