The Waco and Austin Sections are joining together to conduct the Sectional Ranger of the Year (ROTY) Evaluations on August 25, 2007, at Whitestone A/G. Registration will begin at 9:00 with evaluations beginning at 10:00. The cost is $20 per boy being evaluated. Each boy will need to have an application filled out and ready to turn in at the time of registration. This form is worth up to 100 points on the evaluation. The forms can be found on the Waco Section web site under ROTY (they applications are also linked at the end of this post).
Also available online are study guides for each age group. These study guides cover everything that a boy needs to be studying for the ROTY evaluation. These are available at the Waco Section web site under ROTY (they are also linked to at the end of this post). Something new that the national office put out this year, are sample evaluations. These allow the boys to see exactly how questions on the evaluations will look like. These are also available on the Waco Section web site under ROTY (they are also linked to at the end of this post).
Parents are strongly encouraged to come with their boys to the evaluation and be present for the awards ceremony. For those that are not being evaluated, we ask that you pay $5 per person to help cover the cost of lunch. We anticipate the evaluations being done mid-afternoon.
Commanders, you are also strongly encouraged to be in attendance at the evaluation to help with the evaluations. We need evaluators for different evaluation areas in each of the four age groups. If your son is competing in an age group at the ROTY evaluations, you will evaluate in a different age group. Commanders, if you are planning on being in attendance at the Sectional ROTY and are willing to help be an evaluator, please let David Trower know.
Please note, that the continued policy of the Waco Section is that any boy that advances to the District ROTY Evaluation will provide his own way to the evaluation. Since the new ROTY program went into effect, it is possible to have every boy that competes at Sectional ROTY to advance to District. As such, it is not possible for us to price ROTY in such a way that we can cover the district ROTY fee.
Also, due to changes that were adopted by the Executive Committee (EC) in March 2006, a boy must achieve at least a 70% on the evaluation at any level to become a ROTY at that level. Boys that fail to achieve at least 70% will be named a participant at that level of evaluation. If a boy achieves at least 70% on the evaluation but less that 85% on the evaluation, the will be named an Excellent ROTY at that level. Any boy that achieves at least 85% on the evaluation will be named an Outstanding ROTY. Achieving at least 70% at the evaluation will make you a ROTY at that level.
