This report is the biennial report for the Royal Rangers ministry as prepared for the 52nd General Council, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Royal Rangers is an evangelistic ministry targeted to boys. A group leader emailed the national office recently. He was excited because he had just led a boy to Christ. Another account came from a commander who reported that within the last six months, four single mothers and one father came to Christ as a direct result of Royal Rangers. Where church leaders have intentionally focused Royal Rangers as an outreach, we are finding it common that between 4 and 6 of every 10 boys attending the weekly meetings are from unchurched families. Ranger leaders are impacting eternity!
The national ministries staff has devoted itself in the biennium to enhancing the curriculum tools and leadership development resources for the men on the front lines of evangelistic groups. Ranger Basics and the National Training Camp have been revised to better equip men to reach boys. Many training resources are also now available in Spanish. A World Class Outpost seminar was launched to enhance the vision and the pathway leaders can follow to build more effective ministries to boys.
Key events like the 2006 National Camporama, attended by 4,800 men and boys from all 50 states and 11 nations, are drawing in the lost. Hundreds of boys accepted Christ, rededicated their lives, or received the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Districts also conducted colorful events and purposeful training camps for boys, and the headlines are all the same, “Boys Saved!”
The harvest is not limited to America. Boys are coming to Christ through the tireless efforts of dedicated leaders in 73 nations. Royal Rangers International is helping set the conditions fueling growth around the world, and men and boys from across our nation are involved. Boys give of their finances to support Boys and Girls Missionary Crusade, Light for the Lost projects, and Speed the Light. Rangers ministered in over 50 nations conducting PathFinder construction projects, often using their camping skills to rough it in places ordinary teams would not go. Royal Rangers men and boys have hearts for the lost at home and abroad.
In January 2007, the national Royal Rangers department underwent a leadership transition. Richard Mariott served skillfully for eight years leading the ministry through an effective curriculum rewrite. We are grateful to Commander Mariott for his love and dedication. As we move into the future, Ranger leaders in churches all across America will stay true to the ministries’ evangelistic mission—to reach, teach, and keep boys for Christ in their communities and beyond.
