This past Saturday, August 25, the Waco and Austin Sections joined together to hold the sectional evaluations for ROTY. We had a great time with a lot of leaders helping to make ROTY a success. We only had 6 boys, 4 from the Austin section and 2 from the Waco Section. All these boys did extremely well. At ROTY there are two levels, besides participant. If a boy achieves at least an 85% on the evaluation, they achieve the outstanding level. If a boy achieves at least a 70% on the evaluation, they achieve the excellent level. A boy must achieve at least 70% to be names a ROTY at that level.

In Ranger Kids we had one boy compete. He was an extremely bright boy and was only a few points shy of having a perfect score for Ranger Kids. Joel J. achieved the level of outstanding and is named a Sectional ROTY for 2006-2007.

In Discovery Rangers we had three boys compete. One boy was from the Austin section while the other two were from the Waco section. Caleb F. achieved the level of excellent and is named a Sectional ROTY for 2006-2007. As the top point earner of the boys out of the Waco section for Discovery Rangers, he also earned the position of sectional patrol guide and will serve for the next year. He will serve as a junior staff member, and will be entitled to attend staff meetings. The junior staff positions are important roles, because they allow the staff to hear directly from the boys, and they provide an opportunity for boys to let their voice be heard to the staff. Brandon J. also competed from the Waco section, and he did extremely well for his first time competing. We look forward to seeing great things coming from him at future competitions. The boy from the Austin section, Caleb S., achieved the level of outstanding and is named a Sectional ROTY for 2006-2007.

In Adventure Rangers, there were two boys that competed. Both were extremely sharp and achieved the outstanding level and were named Sectional ROTY for 2006-2007. They are Stephen W. and Spencer F. and competed from the Austin Section.

Due to no boys in the Waco section competing in the Adventure and Expedition Rangers age groups at Sectional ROTY, the junior staff positions of sectional senior guide and sectional junior commander will be vacant for the next year. Hopefully, next year we will see more boys coming from the Waco section competing at ROTY. These junior staff positions are only filled by being the top point earner at ROTY.

The study guides for the 2007-2008 ROTY are already available at the national web site and are also linked to from the sectional web site under the ROTY menu. Commanders, download these study guides and begin working with your boys now so they can be prepared for ROTY.

Thank you to David Kohn and the commanders of the Austin section that helped ensure that this years ROTY ran smoothly by handling so much of the preparations for the ROTY. Also, thanks to Tony Garcia, III (regional programs coordinator) for coming from the Gulf Latin’s Austin section and helping with this ROTY. We wish to thank those commanders that came from the Waco section and helped with the evaluations. Finally, we wish to thank District Commander Jonathan Trower for his help with this year’s evaluations.
